"If hardware was a person, it’d be jealous of all the things that software can do so easily. But then, like, software would be insecure, because hardware’s so stable. There’s so much texture in hardware."
— Kyle Hall, RA interview
"I have never in my heart been a conformist. I have always just been biding my time. Marilyn’s great fear is that I will drag her out of the suburbs and into the wilderness. She thinks that every deviation leads into the wilderness."

Acoustic set at Hudson River Loft this Saturday 7pm

Vernous will play a short, stripped down, acoustic set in between readings this Friday at the Hudson River Loft Reading Series! WORD.

The Series is quality experience of literary nonfiction readings, spanning calm readings to shouting and dancing and crying readings. It’s pretty fucking great. The event is curated by Chloe Caldwell, who herself just released a book, Legs Get Led Astray.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE EP…

ver-n-ous:

vern (noun) - shield; anything which protects or defends

n - (from Latin) - infix used to denote an action

ous - suffix used to form adjectives from nouns. From Latin -ösus (“full, full of”)

nous (noun) - common sense; practical intelligence

Vernous is music with synths, slides, strings, strums and staccato sticky drums. Stylistically, the core of the tracks is electronic dance music, though strains of industrial, noise, rock  and ambient music can be heard. Vernous’ second release, Vernous I,picks up from where last year’s self-released Vernous left off: dark and nostalgic songs induce a feeling that is reminiscent of the thick winter air and stark branches of upstate New York, the place where the sounds of Vernous were first conceived. Each song is a montage of drum samples, chopped and delayed vocals, soft and analog synths, and guitars with ebows, slides, and good ol’ pickin’. Aside from drum samples, everything is recorded live. Arranging and sequencing take place simultaneously with recording. Lyrics touch on politics, sex, abandonment and the divine. Live performances are loud, fun and danceable.
